small ends are double drilled to provide additional lubrication and cooling for the pivot pin bearing, which is especially important when the piston bottom is close to the pivot pin bearing
Shot-blasting to eliminate surface stress lines and smoothly connect the radii of the piston rod forgings
double honing gives an ultra-round bearing surface for reliability at high rpm
